Spouted pouch
Also known as: spout pouch, spouted stand-up pouch, pouch with spout, cap pouch, squeeze pouch
A spouted pouch is a flexible pouch with a plastic fitment and screw cap sealed in, designed for liquids and pourable products.
A spouted pouch is usually a stand-up pouch with a rigid plastic fitment and screw cap heat-sealed into the top or a corner. It lets consumers pour, squeeze and reclose liquid or semi-liquid products without spilling.
Typical products
Baby food and fruit purées, juices and smoothies, liquid soap and shampoo refills, liquid detergents, sauces, honey and cooking oil.
Why it works
- Uses considerably less material than a comparable rigid bottle and ships flat when empty.
- Squeezable, so less product is left behind.
- Reclosable thanks to the threaded cap.
- Large printable front and back panels.
Key technical points
Leak-tightness depends on the spout material matching the pouch's inner sealing layer, typically PE to PE or PP to PP. Spout diameter is chosen according to viscosity. Children's products often use oversized caps designed to reduce choking risk. If the product is hot-filled or sterilised, both the laminate and the fitment must be rated for that temperature; see retort pouch and spout and cap for more.
Frequently asked
What products are spouted pouches used for?
Mainly liquids and purées such as baby food, juices, sauces, liquid soaps and detergent refills.
Can spouted pouches be hot-filled?
Some can, but only if the laminate and the spout are specified for the fill temperature. Always confirm this with your supplier before production.
