Doypack (stand-up pouch)
Also known as: stand-up pouch, standup pouch, doy pack, SUP, self-standing pouch
A doypack is a flexible pouch with a folded bottom gusset that lets it stand upright on the shelf, often fitted with a zipper.
A doypack is a flexible pouch with a W-folded gusset sealed into its base. When filled, the gusset opens into an oval footprint so the pack stands upright on its own, which is why it is widely known as a stand-up pouch.
Where it is used
Doypacks cover a huge range of retail products: coffee, tea, nuts, granola, spices, flour, pet treats, detergents and cosmetic refills. With a spout fitted, they also carry liquids and purées.
Why brands choose it
- Both large panels are printable and face the shopper like a label.
- A zipper can be added so the pack reseals after opening.
- It uses far less material than jars or cartons and ships flat.
- Windows, degassing valves, hang holes and tear notches can all be combined with it.
Things to check
Standing stability depends on getting the size right for the fill weight and product density, so test samples with real product before ordering. For heavy fills, compare it with a flat-bottom pouch, which offers a firmer, box-like base. The laminate is chosen according to how much moisture and oxygen protection the product needs.
Frequently asked
Is a doypack the same as a stand-up pouch?
Yes. Doypack is a common trade name for a pouch with a bottom gusset that stands upright; stand-up pouch describes the same format.
Can a doypack be recyclable?
It can be, if it is made from a mono-material structure such as all-PE that is accepted by local recycling streams. Multi-material laminates with aluminium are generally harder to recycle.
