Sombrero hang hole
Also known as: sombrero hole, sombrero hang hole, delta hang hole, hat-shaped hang hole
A sombrero hang hole is a die-cut hang hole shaped like a wide-brimmed hat: a round centre opening with horizontal slits on both sides.
A sombrero hang hole is a die-cut opening at the top of a bag, made of a round centre hole with horizontal slits extending to each side. Seen from the front, it resembles a wide-brimmed hat, hence the name. It is common on hanging OPP bags.
Why this shape?
The round centre lets a display peg pass through easily, while the side slits flex around pegs of different thicknesses and spread the load over a wider area. The result is a bag that slides onto the peg smoothly, is less prone to tearing at a single stress point and does not drop off the hook easily. The header area is often double-layered or joined by ultrasonic welding for extra strength.
Alternatives
- Euro hole: the classic slot used widely on food and cosmetic pouches.
- Oval slot: simple and clean, adequate for light items.
- Round hole: the simplest cut, but more likely to tear under heavier loads.
Choose based on product weight, the type of retail peg and the look you want.
Frequently asked
