OPP cellophane bag
Also known as: OPP bag, cello bag, cellophane bag, clear poly bag, BOPP bag, crystal clear bag
An OPP bag is a highly transparent, glossy and slightly stiff bag made from oriented polypropylene film, used for retail display packing.
An OPP bag (often called a cello or cellophane bag) is a bag made from oriented polypropylene film. Stretching the film during production makes it thin, stiff and exceptionally clear, so the packed product is shown with almost no haze.
Typical uses
OPP bags are popular for individually packed garments, socks and baby items, jewellery and accessories on hang displays, greeting cards and stationery, gift items, and as inner protection for e-commerce goods. Most are made from BOPP film, usually in the 25–50 micron range.
OPP vs PE bags
- Clarity: OPP is glossy and glass-clear; PE tends to look slightly milky.
- Feel: OPP is crisp, holds its shape and crinkles audibly; PE is soft, quiet and conforms to the product.
- Toughness: PE stretches and tolerates sharp or heavy items better; OPP does not stretch and tears easily once nicked.
OPP bags come plain, with a resealable adhesive strip, with a permanent shipping seal, or with a hang hole. Not every OPP bag is suitable for food; if you pack food, ask for a declaration of compliance covering the film and any print or adhesive.
Frequently asked
Is an OPP bag the same as a cellophane bag?
In everyday trade they are used interchangeably, but true cellophane is a cellulose film. Most modern "cello bags" are actually OPP polypropylene.
Are OPP bags food safe?
Only if they are produced from food-contact grade materials. Ask the supplier for a declaration of compliance before packing food.
