Resealable adhesive strip
Also known as: resealable strip, reclosable adhesive tape, peel and seal strip, self-seal strip, lip and tape
A resealable adhesive strip is a pressure-sensitive tape on a bag flap, protected by a silicone release liner, that can be opened and closed several times.
A resealable adhesive strip is a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape applied to the flap of an OPP bag. It is covered with a silicone-coated release liner; once the liner is peeled away, the flap is pressed onto the bag body to close it.
How it works
The silicone coating stops the adhesive from bonding permanently to the liner, so it peels off cleanly. The adhesive itself is formulated to be repositionable: the flap can be lifted and pressed down again several times, although tack tends to weaken with dust, heat and repeated use.
Where it is used
Typical applications are retail garments that shoppers take out and inspect, greeting cards and stationery, jewellery and small gifts. No heat sealer is needed, so packing can be done by hand.
Things to consider
Specify whether the strip sits on the flap or on the bag body, and choose a wider strip for heavier items. If you need to show that a pack has not been opened, a permanent shipping seal tape is the right choice instead.
Frequently asked
How many times can a resealable strip be reused?
There is no fixed number; it depends on the adhesive, temperature and dust. Typically it recloses a few times before tack drops noticeably.
Do I need a heat sealer for bags with an adhesive strip?
No. You simply peel off the release liner and press the flap down by hand.
