Euro hang hole (euro slot)
Also known as: euro slot, euro hole, sombrero hang hole, butterfly hang hole, peg hole
A euro hang hole is a winged slot punched near the top of a pouch so it can hang on retail display pegs.
A euro hang hole, also called a euro slot or sombrero hole, is a punched opening with a round centre and two horizontal wings, placed in the top seal area of a pouch so it can hang on retail display pegs.
Why use it
Hanging display suits flat packs that cannot stand on a shelf and keeps the front panel fully visible at eye level. The winged shape spreads the load over a wider area than a simple round hole, so the pack is less likely to tear when shoppers take it off the peg, and it fits pegs of different thicknesses.
Typical products
Spices, nuts, confectionery, cosmetic samples, small hardware, toys, seeds and pet treats.
Design checklist
- Leave enough height in the top seal for the hole plus a strength margin around it.
- Match film thickness and seal width to the product weight.
- Keep logos and key text away from the hole and mark it on the dieline.
- On zippered pouches the hole sits above the zipper and is removed when the pack is opened.
Euro holes work on three-side seal pouches as well as stand-up pouches, which lets retailers choose between shelf and peg display.
