Round hang hole
Also known as: round hole, circular hang hole, round punch hole, peg hole
A round hang hole is a simple circular punch at the top of a pouch, used to hang light, small packs on display pegs.
A round hang hole is a simple circular hole punched in the top seal of a flexible pack so it can hang on a peg or hook at the point of sale. The diameter is chosen to suit the retailer's display hardware.
When it makes sense
It is the most minimal way to make a pack hangable and takes up very little of the design. Small spice and seasoning packs, light confectionery, samples, seed packets and small hardware items commonly use it.
Round hole or euro slot?
Because the load sits on a small point, a round hole is more prone to tearing with heavier packs. A euro hang hole spreads the weight across its wings and fits a wider range of pegs, so it is often preferred for larger or heavier products. Some retailers specify one type as standard, so check before artwork is finalised.
Design points
- Keep a safe distance from the pack edge and from the lower edge of the top seal.
- Films with good tear resistance stop the hole from stretching over time.
- Mark the hole on the dieline and keep key text clear of it.
- Centre the hole horizontally so the pack hangs straight.
Frequently asked
Is a round hole strong enough for heavy packs?
It can work, but the load is concentrated in one spot, so heavier packs usually use a euro slot and a tougher film.
Where should a hang hole be placed?
In the top seal area, centred horizontally, with enough margin from the edges so it does not tear.
