Matte BOPP
Also known as: matte BOPP, matt BOPP, matte OPP, matte film, matte finish pouch
Matte BOPP is a low-gloss polypropylene film used as a pouch's outer layer to create a soft, premium, modern look.
Matte BOPP is biaxially oriented polypropylene film with a light-scattering, low-gloss surface. Used as the outer layer of a pouch, it gives a calm, modern, premium look.
Why choose it
Glossy film can reflect shelf lights and hide parts of a design; a matte surface keeps colours soft and text readable. It is popular for coffee, tea, nuts, supplements and cosmetics, and it hides fingerprints and light scuffs.
Matte film or matte lacquer?
- Matte BOPP film: the whole surface is matte because the film itself is.
- Matte lacquer: a matte varnish printed on glossy film, which allows matte and gloss areas side by side, for example a glossy logo on a matte background, known as spot varnish.
Things to note
Colours can look slightly softer on matte surfaces, so check proofs if colour is critical. Because it is polypropylene, matte BOPP paired with a CPP sealant can form a recyclable all-PP mono-material structure, so a matte look and recyclability can go together.
Frequently asked
Is a matte pouch more expensive?
Usually slightly, whether the finish comes from matte film or matte lacquer. The difference depends on the structure and order quantity.
Can one pouch have both matte and gloss areas?
Yes, typically by applying a selective matte lacquer over glossy film.
