Quad-seal pouch
Also known as: quad seal bag, quad-seal pouch, four corner seal bag, quattro bag, quad bag
A quad-seal pouch has all four vertical corners sealed, with side gussets and a flat base that keep a crisp, square shape.
A quad-seal pouch is a side-gusseted bag in which each of the four vertical corners is sealed separately. Those corner seals act like a frame, so the pack keeps a crisp, square shape even when partly empty, and the base opens out flat when filled.
Common applications
Coffee in medium and larger sizes, pet food, bird seed, flour, sugar, rice and garden products such as soil or fertiliser.
Advantages
- Holds its form on shelf without slumping.
- Front, back and both gussets can be designed as separate panels.
- Gussets increase capacity for a given front width.
- Can be closed by heat sealing, a zipper, a tin tie or folded and labelled.
Considerations
The extra corner seals add processing steps, so it generally costs more than a plain side-gusseted bag. For coffee, plan the position of the degassing valve together with the artwork. Barrier laminates such as PET/foil/PE or PET/metallised/PE are typical.
Frequently asked
How is a quad-seal pouch different from a side-gusseted bag?
Both have side gussets, but a quad-seal pouch also has all four vertical corners sealed, which gives it a sturdier, more box-like shape.
Is a quad-seal pouch suitable for heavy products?
Yes. It is commonly used for heavier fills such as pet food, flour or larger coffee packs, provided the laminate thickness is chosen accordingly.
