Pet food packaging is challenged from two sides: the fats inside oxidise over time, while outside the pack has to carry a heavy fill and survive knocks in transit. Good packaging handles both at once.
Fat oxidation and shelf life
High-fat dry food turns rancid and changes smell as it meets oxygen. Structures with a metallised or aluminium core cut oxygen transmission and keep the food fresh for longer.
Strength
The hard edges of kibble can puncture thin films. A thicker inner layer and strong seals lower the risk of tears and leaks, especially for packs over 2 kg. Flat bottom and quad seal formats also carry the weight more evenly.
Odour and convenience
- A barrier structure keeps the smell inside the pack.
- A resealable zipper helps an opened pack stay fresh for days.
- A carry handle makes large packs easier to transport.
Design matters too when dozens of similar products share a shelf; a clear product photo and readable information help buyers decide faster.
